BHUTANESE CURRENCY

The Ngultrum (BTN) is Bhutan’s official currency, denoted by the symbol Nu, with 100 Chhertum constituting 1 BTN. It is widely used for all economic transactions both locally and professionally. Bhutan maintains a close tie with India, and the Indian Rupee (INR) is readily accepted, with a fixed exchange rate of 1 Rupee to 1 Ngultrum.
Similar to India, Bhutan’s currency operates on a floating exchange rate system, influenced by factors like demand, supply, and interest rates. Presently, BTN 83 is approximately equivalent to US$ 1.
At Paro International Airport’s foreign exchange desk, various currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, JPY, CHF, HKD, CAD, DKK, AUD, and SGD can be exchanged for Ngultrum. Additionally, Bank of Bhutan branches in major economic hubs like Paro and Thimphu offer currency exchange services, though such facilities might be limited in smaller local towns.
